My Story

Nancy Travis, founder and CEO of Travis Global Strategies, is a seasoned global government affairs executive with considerable experience in international trade policy, market access, and the life sciences industry.

  • Pro-Innovation Policy Expert:  As Head of International Affairs at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), Ms. Travis promoted global access to biotech solutions in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental industries during the Biden administration.  Her team successfully opposed proposals to waive intellectual property rights for pandemic therapies at the World Trade Organization and worked with the U.S. Trade Representative to launch the first-ever biotech corn case under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement.

  • Global Trade Specialist:  As Deputy Director of the Economic Policy Office in the Asia-Pacific Bureau at the U.S. Department of State, Ms. Travis specialized in international economics and trade, representing the United States at global summits under the George W. Bush administration.  She created actionable policies to advance U.S. goals of open markets, free trade, and democracy. She managed teams in Washington, DC, and abroad, building consensus across varied constituencies and seeing the impact of initiatives on people's lives.

  • Market Access Professional:  As Vice President of Global Strategy and Compliance at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), Ms. Travis focused on opening markets for the medical device industry worldwide, ensuring a level playing field for U.S. companies, removing trade obstacles in China, and advancing regulatory harmonization in the Asia-Pacific region.  She utilized relationships with the U.S. Commerce Department under the Trump and Obama Administrations to position AdvaMed’s Code of Ethics as the global gold standard, demonstrating that good ethics translate into good business.

  • National Security Practitioner:  During her early career in the intelligence community, Ms. Travis learned the essential importance of attention to detail, careful analysis of facts, and their application to real-world events.  She gained early management experience and developed strength in cross-cultural communications while leading teams overseas.  She analyzed complex intelligence to aid policymakers in making the best decisions on national security challenges, writing for the President’s Daily Brief and delivering in-person briefings at the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

  • Skilled Communicator:  As a financial writer at the Cable News Network (CNN) in New York, Ms. Travis became an expert at telling complex stories in 30 seconds, mastering clear and simple communications.  She deciphered breaking financial news to create a better-informed public.
